The brand's DNA
The brand's DNA
Ray-Ban embodies a universal and timeless style, at the intersection of functionality and aesthetics. Its models are distinguished by clean lines, robust frames, and a particular attention paid to sun lenses, originally designed to offer optimal protection. Whether in aviator, wayfarer, or clubmaster shapes, Ray-Ban glasses are defined by their ability to transcend eras and establish themselves as cultural symbols.
His story
His story
Founded in 1937 by Bausch & Lomb in the United States, Ray-Ban was born out of a desire to provide American air force pilots with eyewear that offered comfort and protection. The first model, the Aviator, quickly became an icon. In the following decades, the brand enjoyed a string of successes: the Wayfarer (1952) and the Clubmaster (1980s) also made their mark on global visual culture. In the years 1999-2000, Ray-Ban was acquired by Luxottica, which has since ensured production in Italy. Between the 1980s and 2000s, the brand established itself as much on movie screens as in everyday fashion.

The Wayfarer owes much of its success to Hollywood: it appeared in more than 60 films between the 1950s and 1980s, including Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) and The Blues Brothers (1980). Ray-Ban's use in cinema was no accident: in the 1980s, the brand signed a contract with a specialist agency to place its models in Hollywood productions, contributing to their iconic status.
Until 1999, all Ray-Bans were made in the United States, primarily in Rochester, New York.
The glasses bore the inscription B&L engraved in the corner, a guarantee of authenticity highly sought after by collectors today.
Why collect them?
Why collect them?
Vintage Ray-Ban eyewear combines American or Italian manufacturing quality, iconic designs, and strong cultural roots. Each frame bears a unique story: one of military aviation, cinema, or music. Pieces produced before the acquisition by Luxottica (Bausch & Lomb series) are particularly sought after for their rarity and authenticity. Collecting Ray-Ban means preserving a piece of both technical and cultural heritage.
