Ray-Ban Clubmaster USA Vintage – Bausch & Lomb Authentic

The "Bausch & Lomb Ray-Ban USA" engraved on the temple indicates that the glasses were manufactured before 1999, when the brand was still produced in the United States by Bausch & Lomb (which founded Ray-Ban in 1937). These glasses embody the golden age of American optical know-how:

  • Ray-Ban was originally designed to meet the needs of US Army Air Corps pilots in the 1930s.

  • This frame is similar to the "browline" (or eyebrow glasses) popularized in the 1950s: an acetate top line (here in dark tortoiseshell) set on a gold metal rim. Ray-Ban made this concept official in the 1980s under the name Clubmaster.

  • Although this particular model isn't the one seen in Risky Business , the Clubmaster touch is omnipresent in 1980s and 1990s cinema: politicians, jazz musicians, university campus intellectuals and even trendy directors wore them. In France, they could be spotted in the vinyl bins at "preppy" parties or on the faces of television commentators.

Detailed description

FAQ

Vintage glasses?

What is it?

For us, vintage eyeglasses are more than 20 years old. This means they were made before 2005. You'll find original frames with us, dating from around 1910 to 2010.

Are they new?

Almost! In our collections, you'll find so-called "dead stock" eyeglass frames—which means they're vintage but still new—and others that have already had a life and have been worn.

ALL frames have been refurbished in our workshop near Lyon, cleaned, repolished, repaired, pampered, and more. And most importantly, the lenses are all new and selected for their quality, meeting the same standards as those you'll find at your optician.
