The brand's DNA
The brand's DNA
At Bugatti, everything starts with mechanics. But beyond the engines, there's an attention to detail, a search for consistency between performance and aesthetics. The sunglasses designed by the brand echo this language: solid shapes, clean lines, a style that evokes the road and speed without overdoing it. No unnecessary effects, just a clear visual signature, at the crossroads of luxury and technology.
These are serious, understated glasses, and above all, made to last.
His story
His story
Ettore Bugatti founded the brand in 1909 in Molsheim. His name quickly became synonymous with racing cars and prestige models. Beginning in the 1980s, Bugatti expanded its range beyond automobiles: clothing, accessories, and eyewear. The latter were produced in small batches, often in France or Germany. The brand didn't seek to create fashion, but to extend a state of mind: that of a well-made object that stands the test of time.
The iconic frames
The iconic frames
Several models of Bugatti sunglasses are currently sought after on the second-hand and vintage market:
- Bugatti 13501: Thick black or havana acetate frame, oversized pilot shape with gold metal inserts on the temples. Bugatti signature engraved in relief. Made in France.
- Bugatti 11601: Rectangular frame in brushed gold metal, rigid double bridge, acetate-covered temples with logo. Made in Germany, 1980s.
- Bugatti 14403: Off-white acetate frame, very enveloping shape, light brown tinted lenses. Inspired by the aerodynamic lines of sports bodies.
These models are generally stamped "France" or "Germany" inside the temples, a guarantee of quality optical know-how.
Did you know?
Did you know?
At one time, Bugatti offered eyeglass cases that mirrored the design cues of its cars: dashboard-style trim, metal clasp, and a centered logo. These cases have become almost as rare as the frames themselves.
Why collect?
Why collect?
Bugatti sunglasses are rare, often produced in small batches and difficult to find in good condition today.
Their interest for collectors is mainly based on:
- The rarity of the models: few reissues, very limited distribution at the time.
- The strong link with the luxury automotive world: a coveted niche segment.
- Manufacturing quality: dense acetate, sturdy hinges, careful finishing.
- Heritage value: period objects, often marked "Made in France" or "Made in Germany", witnesses to the high-end design of the 1980s and 90s.
