His story
His story
The brand was founded in 1957 under the name Skilynx Acier, at the initiative of Roger Pouilloux, optician and inventor of technical lenses, notably the Skilynx lens. In 1961, the brand became Vuarnet, in tribute to skier Jean Vuarnet, gold medalist at the Squaw Valley Winter Olympics, who became an official ambassador. From then on, Vuarnet established itself as a reference in the world of skiing and outdoor sports, before becoming a pop icon in the 1980s. The glasses were produced in France, in Meaux, by the Ateliers Pouilloux, with high-quality mineral lenses, cut and polished by hand.

Skilynx lenses, a Vuarnet signature since the 1960s, are silica-based photochromic mineral lenses capable of increasing contrast even in overcast or snowy conditions. Cut, polished, and engraved in Meaux, each lens bears a laser-engraved "V" to guarantee its authenticity. Originally developed for professional pilots and skiers, it remains a benchmark in optical sun protection to this day.
Why collect them?
Why collect them?
Vintage Vuarnet eyewear combines technical innovation, functional aesthetics, and French industrial history. Manufactured in the Pouilloux workshops, they feature mineral lenses of a quality rarely matched on the market today. Models from the 1970s to 1990s have become rare, particularly the Glaciers and the tricolor logo series. All of this with a visual simplicity that has transcended fashion trends—a sure bet for discerning collectors.
