The brand's DNA
The brand's DNA
Casanova develops a unique visual language based on structure, contrast, and architectural references. Each frame features a precise, often asymmetrical construction, influenced by Venetian aesthetics and the decorative arts. The brand appeals to those seeking a statement object, conceived as a designer piece.
His story
His story
The Casanova brand was founded in Venice in the early 1980s by Clemente Casanova, an Italian optician with a passion for art, architecture, and design. He created sculptural eyewear produced in very small, often numbered, series.
The brand's heyday was between 1985 and 1995, a period during which the models were exported to Japan and the United States, becoming cult objects for collectors of avant-garde eyewear.
The iconic frames
The iconic frames
Among the most sought-after series: the Casanova LC, Casanova MTC, and Casanova CNL models, all recognizable by their complex geometric shapes, gold or silver metal inserts, and bold asymmetrical cutouts. The openwork temples and contrasting colored acetate and metal frames distinguish each Casanova creation from a simple pair of glasses.
Did you know?
Did you know?
Some Casanova frames from the 1980s were inspired by traditional Venetian masks and even bear the names of historical or fictional figures from the city. The reference to Giacomo Casanova, an 18th-century seducer and libertine writer, is an implicit signature of the brand's theatrical and exuberant identity.
Some glasses were designed to be worn asymmetrically, with one arm different from the other, assumed as an integral part of the design.
Why collect?
Why collect?
Casanova eyewear appeals to both collectors and design enthusiasts. Their limited production, their design rooted in a specific historical context, and the consistency of their visual identity make them sought-after pieces. These frames tell the story of an era and a vision of eyewear as a cultural object.
