2000s Jean Lafont
This pair is an excellent example of high-end "Made in France" acetate craftsmanship, produced in small batches in Morez, in the Jura region, a historic bastion of French eyewear. A true vintage gem, in short.
Between feminine silhouette and graphic design
The LOLA 616 model was launched at a time when Jean Lafont was reinterpreting icons of the past with a very graphic approach. In the 2000s, the Lafont house was inspired as much by the Parisian couture of the 50s (a time when cat-eye glasses symbolized triumphant feminine elegance) as by emerging industrial and digital design .
But what is fascinating about this pair is the side branch in the shape of a wave or feminine curve . Some internally at Lafont claim that this curve would be inspired by a stylized female profile silhouette , a sort of discreet signature of femininity , visible only when looking at the glasses from the side.
This artistic intention, typical of French refinement, was not intended to be immediately readable , but to create a complicity with those who know how to observe. It is a way of making the frame both utilitarian and narrative.
