1990s Vintage Acetate
Vintage tortoiseshell oval women's glasses - Italian made, 1990s
This pair of glasses features a style typical of the late 1980s to early 1990s , a period marked by a return to bolder, more sculptural shapes. Thick, oval or rectangular frames and tortoise shell patterns were strong signs of a bold, almost exuberant design that opposed the minimalism of the 80s.
The tortoiseshell pattern , very present here, is a nod to the tortoiseshell frames (now banned) that were once prized for their lightness and strength. Today, these patterns are reproduced in acetate with very aesthetic variations. This type of eyewear has been popularized by figures in pop culture and cinema (for example, the iconic looks of Prada or Alain Mikli at the time).
The "Made in Italy" marking visible on the temple indicates European manufacturing, often synonymous with artisanal quality, particularly in regions such as Cadore , the historic cradle of Italian eyewear.
