Collection: Safilo

Safilo is an Italian brand founded in 1934, renowned for its eyewear expertise and technical innovations like the Elasta hinge. The Vision Janine collection features vintage eyewear from the 1970s to the 1990s: Italian acetate frames, oversized models, fine metal pieces, and iconic series from the history of eyewear.

The brand's DNA

Safilo is synonymous with Italian precision, quality craftsmanship, and timeless design. Its eyewear is characterized by classic yet refined lines, a focus on ergonomics, and careful attention to detail. From sporty shapes to elegant urban frames, Safilo embodies a balance between style and functionality.

His story

The Safilo Group (Società Azionaria Fabbrica Italiana Lavorazione Occhiali) was founded in 1934 in Agordo, Veneto, a region that has become the cradle of the Italian eyewear industry. Safilo quickly established itself as a major player, not only for its own collections but also as a licensed manufacturer for major fashion houses (Dior, Gucci, Valentino, Givenchy, etc.). From the 1970s to the 1990s, Safilo eyewear bore the hallmarks of demanding Italian production, combining technical innovation and understated design, before the group became one of the world leaders in eyewear.

The iconic frames

- Safilo Elasta: frames equipped with a patented flexible hinge system, a guarantee of comfort and strength.

- Safilo Design series 4000: thin rectangular metal shapes, typical of the 80s.

- Safilo Evolution: oversized acetate frames, often in translucent or marbled colors.

- Safilo sports glasses: gradient lenses, lightweight metal frames, chic outdoor orientation.

Did you know?

The Safilo Elasta hinge system, launched in the 1970s, was one of the brand's major innovations. This technology, still used on some models, offered increased flexibility and exceptional durability, to the point that some vintage frames are still fully functional several decades later.

Why collect them?

Vintage Safilo eyewear is notable for its high-quality Italian manufacturing, its central place in the history of eyewear, and its remarkable durability. It embodies an era when Italy dominated global production while also serving as a creative laboratory for the greatest fashion houses. Its rarity on the market, particularly for series equipped with the Elasta system or produced in limited editions, makes it sought-after by collectors and lovers of understated, sustainable design.
