Collection: Yves Saint Laurent
Yves Saint Laurent embodies a couture vision of eyewear, where graphic design meets sculptural elegance. At Vision Janine, we celebrate eyewear that transcends eras with character. The Yves Saint Laurent collection celebrates the boldness, aesthetic rigor, and effortless elegance of one of France's greatest fashion houses.
The brand's DNA
The brand's DNA
The Yves Saint Laurent universe is distinguished by a powerful, graphic, and theatrical style. From androgynous silhouettes to plays on contrasts, the house cultivates a strong visual language, both structured and sensual. The eyewear follows the same logic: assertive geometries, bold frames, metallic or gold details, often marked by the YSL logo in relief or inset. A controlled elegance, always in tension between classicism and provocation.
His story
His story
Founded in 1961 by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, the eponymous house marked a turning point in the history of fashion by imposing a radically modern vision: democratization of luxury ready-to-wear, affirmation of feminine power, structured aesthetics. The first Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses appeared in the 1970s, in collaboration with manufacturers like Carrera Optyl, then under license with Safilo in the 1980s. These collections, often produced in France, Austria or Italy, are designed as accessories in their own right in the YSL wardrobe, just like jewelry or bags.
The iconic frames
The iconic frames
Some YSL eyewear models have become iconic:
- Model 6034/S: thick acetate, butterfly shape, embossed gold YSL logo on the temples.
- Model 6578/S: oversized mask frame in Optyl, typical of the 80s.
- Model 6557: cat's eye design, gold metal and black enamel inserts.
- Model 6562/S: wide, sculpted temples, logo signature integrated into the material.
The most common shapes include butterfly frames, oversized squares, masks, and angular geometries. In terms of materials, Optyl is widely used for its lightness and strength, alongside acetate and metal. Gold finishes, marbled effects, and branded temples are among the most common visual signatures.
Did you know?
Did you know?
In the 1980s, some Yves Saint Laurent eyewear was manufactured in Optyl by the Carrera group. This patented thermosetting material made it possible to create lightweight, strong, and easily adaptable frames, while paving the way for more sculptural shapes than traditional acetates. A technical innovation that was barely visible to the naked eye, but highly valued by discerning collectors.
In the 1980s, Yves Saint Laurent was one of the first fashion houses to incorporate its stylistic codes into its eyewear. Some models were even coordinated with the ready-to-wear collections of the same season—a pioneering practice that made eyewear a fashion accessory in its own right.
