Collection: Givenchy

Since the 1950s, Givenchy has embodied a sober, feminine, and structured elegance inherited from its founder, Hubert de Givenchy. Its vintage glasses, often spectacular in their simplicity, reflect the couture spirit down to the smallest detail. At Vision Janine, we bring these iconic, refined, and timeless pieces back to life, restoring them with care and precision.

The brand's DNA

Givenchy embodies a style that is both structured and refined, where the classicism of French couture interacts with a touch of architectural audacity. In eyewear, this signature is expressed through controlled, often geometric shapes, clean lines, and elegant details: gold effects, logo inserts, and contrasting matte and shiny finishes. The Givenchy aesthetic is recognizable by its sophisticated restraint, inherited from the chic minimalism of the 1980s and 1990s.

His story

Givenchy was founded in Paris in 1952 by Hubert de Givenchy, who quickly became one of the leading couturiers of the 20th century, notably thanks to his iconic collaboration with Audrey Hepburn. Beginning in the 1970s, the brand expanded its activities into accessories, including eyewear, often produced under license with European manufacturers such as Logo Paris and Optyl. Givenchy glasses from the 1980s and 1990s reflected the house's understated elegance and refinement, while also reflecting the major trends of the time: oversized frames, visible logos, metallic or pearly finishes.

The iconic frames

- Model GIV 133: deep black acetate frame, wide temples with embossed gold logo.

- Model GIV 8616: softened cat-eye shape, gold metal inserts on the temples.

- Model GIV 6222: geometric design, sculpted bridge, marbled colors typical of the 80s.

- Optyl model (7000 series): lightness, smoked transparencies, mirror or metallic effect.

Did you know?

In the 1980s, some Givenchy glasses were produced in Optyl by the Safilo group, a patented material that was lighter and more durable than classic acetate. But what sets Givenchy apart from many other licensed brands is the attention paid to the stylistic harmony between the glasses and the ready-to-wear collections: some models feature patterns or shades directly inspired by the fabrics or accessories on the runways.

Why collect them?

Vintage Givenchy eyewear appeals to connoisseurs for its European manufacturing quality, sophisticated understated style, and direct connection to French haute couture. The 1980s and 1990s models represent a time when fashion houses paid real attention to aesthetic consistency between clothing and accessories. Produced in limited editions, some Givenchy frames are becoming rare on the market, particularly those with metallic or Optyl finishes.
