Collection: Courreges

A true icon of the French avant-garde, Courrèges has left its mark on fashion history with its clean lines, innovative materials, and futuristic vision. At Vision Janine, we invite you to rediscover a selection of carefully restored vintage Courrèges sunglasses: radical, sculptural, and wildly modern pieces.

The brand's DNA

From the very beginning, Courrèges developed a resolutely forward-looking aesthetic: clean lines, geometric shapes, technical materials, and the confident use of white, vinyl, and molded plastic. Sunglasses are no exception to this visual logic: sculptural shapes, thick structures, and sometimes single-piece frames. The Courrèges style is identifiable by its rigorous minimalism, strong volumes, and an almost industrial approach to silhouettes.

His story

Founded in Paris in 1961 by André Courrèges, a former Balenciaga collaborator, Courrèges quickly established itself as one of the pillars of 1960s sartorial futurism. It was behind iconic pieces such as the geometric miniskirt, the white trapeze dress, patent leather boots, and bold sunglasses. From the late 1960s, the brand developed licensed accessories, including sunglasses, first made in France and then in Italy in the following decades. These models accompanied the Courrèges silhouette in its sporty, minimalist, and techno-feminine variations, until the 1990s.

The iconic frames

The most iconic models are the mask glasses of the 60s and 70s, with lenses integrated into a single structure, often white or silver. The model nicknamed “Eskimo”, with its enveloping design, remains one of the most representative of the Courrèges spirit. In the 80s and 90s, the brand adopted thick frames in white, black or translucent acetate, with stylized “AC” logos on the temples. Some models adopted the geometric cat-eye shape or very thick panto variations, with smoked or colored lenses (pink, gray, brown). The “Courrèges Paris” marking appears engraved or on a plate, depending on the series.

Did you know?

In 1965, Courrèges created a collection called "Space Age," whose accessories—including eyewear—were directly inspired by space imagery. These pieces echoed humanity's first steps into space (the Apollo program, the conquest of the Moon) and translated the technological utopia of the 1960s into fashion. Some eyewear from this period has been exhibited in design museums, including the MoMA (New York) and the Palais Galliera (Paris).

Why collect them?

Vintage Courrèges sunglasses are sought after for their stylistic value. They embody a period when fashion explored new forms, influenced by architecture, science, and industry. Their French or Italian manufacturing is generally meticulous, and their targeted distribution (few models were mass-produced) gives them a certain rarity on the current market. They are of interest to fashion collectors as well as to lovers of 20th-century design, particularly those interested in the Futurist movement.
